Food, Preparation and Nutrition
Food Preparation and Nutrition is part of the Arts and DT rotation at Key Stage 3 and is a GCSE option subject that can be studied in Years 10 and 11.
The subject focuses on practical cooking skills such as food preparation and cooking techniques, and enables learners to develop an understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of food materials. At GCSE level, this is extended deepened to include the study of food science, food safety and food choices.
At all levels of the subject, learners will develop their knowledge and skills in preparing and cooking dishes from a range of countries and cultures, they will learn about the importance of nutrient-dense foods and the benefits of a balanced diet on health and well-being.
